About Panchang
Panchang (पंचांग) is the traditional Hindu almanac — the word means “five limbs”: Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, and Vara (weekday). Together they describe the quality of time, helping devotees choose auspicious windows for travel, business, ceremonies and daily practice.
The Kochi Panchang is computed for coordinates 9.93°N, 76.27°E using the Nirayana (sidereal) system with Lahiri ayanamsa — the standard for traditional Indian astrology. Because sunrise varies by location, Rahu Kaal and Choghadiya times are unique to Kochi (Cochin).
The lunar day. Each 12° of Moon–Sun separation is one tithi. There are 30 tithis per lunar month, split into Shukla (waxing) and Krishna (waning) paksha.
One of 27 lunar mansions, each spanning 13°20′ of the sidereal zodiac. The Moon transits one nakshatra roughly every day, shaping activities initiated then.
Determined by the sum of the Sun and Moon's sidereal longitudes divided by 13°20′. Of the 27 yogas, some are highly auspicious (Siddha, Amrita) and some are inauspicious (Vishkambha).
A ~90-minute inauspicious window ruled by Rahu. It falls in a different part of the daytime on each weekday. Avoid starting new or important work during this period.
Eight equal day slots and eight night slots, each with a quality. Amrit, Shubh, Labh and Char are auspicious; Udveg, Kaal and Rog are to be avoided.
The pre-dawn window ~96–48 minutes before sunrise. Considered the most powerful time for spiritual practice, japa, yoga and meditation.
The Sadhana app computes Panchang on your device for your exact location — no internet needed. Includes japa counter, 900+ mantras, Choghadiya, festival calendar and Mindful Pause.
